One Dharma Nashville is an integrative Buddhist meditation and study group that draws from the wisdom traditions of Zen, Vipassana and Tibetan. We were founded in 2006 by meditation teacher Lisa Ernst, who wished to offer a contemporary Buddhist sangha that also maintains its roots in traditional teachings and practices. One Dharma is at the forefront of Western Buddhism, where we have access to all of the great dharma traditions that were once segregated by geography in the East. Our practice is not wedded to the cultural forms of Buddhism, but instead emphasizes the foundational approaches that free the mind from suffering and awaken the heart to compassion. Each of the three traditions offer teachings and practices such as lovingkindness, compassion and mindfulness, that can help us realize true freedom in our own lives.
We meet Monday nights, 7 - 8:30 for meditation, chanting and discussion. Everyone is welcome, from the curious beginner to the experienced practitioner. We also offer a twice monthly Saturday "Basics of Mindfulness Meditation and Study Group" plus a variety of classes and meetings on Thursday nights. You can see our full schedule by clicking here.
One Dharma Nashville is a sister sangha to InsightLA, the Los Angeles area's premiere meditation and mindfulness education center. InsightLA was founded by Trudy Goodman, Ph.D., in 2002. Lisa Ernst, One Dharma's founder and guiding teacher, studied and practiced with Trudy for many years before receiving teaching authorization from her in 2005 and formal dharma transmission in 2010.
All of our meetings are held at the 12South Dharma Center, 2301 12th Avenue South. We're at the corner of 12th and Linden, above Serendipity. To enter, go to the back of the building (on Linden) up the stairs and take the door to the right. For your first visit, please plan to arrive fifteen minutes early for orientation. There is no cost to attend, but your donations help us cover the cost of rent and supplies. Please write onedharmainfo@gmail.com for more information.
