Cultivating Wise Attention: Awakening into Insight and Awareness
Thursday Evening, December 1 – Sunday Noon December 4 with Optional Extension to December 6
Bethany Hills Retreat Center, Kingston Springs, TN
All of our joys and sorrows, thoughts and feelings arise and fall away in a field of awareness that is clear, expansive and open. In this retreat we will explore how mindfulness, concentration and open awareness support each other. We will learn how developing the capacity to rest in awareness creates a wider container to meet even our most challenging and stressful thoughts and emotions with insight and compassion. It also stabilizes concentration (samadhi) and strengthens insight (prajna). This retreat is designed to invigorate and nourish, not only our formal mindfulness and concentration practices, but also our daily activities.
This retreat, held mostly in silence, will include periods of sitting and walking meditation, instruction, dharma talks and q&a. The retreat is suitable for all levels of experience from beginner to long term practitioner. The cost is $395 for three nights and $575 for the five night option. Please note that Bethany Hills has significantly raised their prices. We have decided only to pass along a modest percentage of this price increase and will absorb the rest. We will also continue to make reduced fee scholarships available for those who need financial assistance. We appreciate donations to our scholarship fund to allow those who need to pay less to attend as we will be operating on slim margins. Donations can be made here. For scholarship requests, email email@example.com.
Please note that the retreat fee covers meals, lodging and administrative expenses. The teacher is compensated separately through the practice of dana (generosity). You will have a an opportunity at retreat’s end to make a dana offering to the teacher.
If you are unable to pay the full fee at registration, please email us at the address above to arrange for two payments.
We are monitoring Covid in our area and will likely require a negative home test to attend the retreat. We will keep you posted.
Lisa Ernst is a meditation teacher in the Thai Forest/Spirit Rock lineage of Ajahn Chah, Jack Kornfield and Trudy Goodman. Lisa teaches internationally and leads classes and retreats nationally.
