The Brahma Viharas

Five Week Online Course Led by Anne Greeott

Wednesdays, September 16, 23, October 7, 21, November 4

7- 8:30 PM CT, on Zoom

The Buddha taught four qualities of heart that have the power to transform how we relate to ourselves, others, and the world around us. Known as the Brahma Viharas, or “Divine Abodes,” these practices of lovingkindness, compassion, empathetic joy, and equanimity help us cultivate greater well-being and connection by undermining fear and the illusion of separateness. As we bring these qualities into our daily lives, we discover greater ease in meeting ourselves, our relationships, and life’s inevitable challenges with wisdom and kindness.

In a time when many people struggle with self-criticism, division, overwhelm, and uncertainty, the Brahma Viharas offer a practical path toward connection and freedom. By cultivating these qualities, we begin to erode the habits of fear, reactivity, and separation that limit our well-being.

This course will explore each quality of heart and teach participants various techniques to offer them to ourselves and others. Each 90-minute session will consist of a guided meditation, a teaching talk, and discussion. A written overview to orient participants to the entire course will be provided before the first session.
