Awakening Together: The Union of Emptiness and Compassion
December 2 – 5 with an optional extension to December 7, Held on Zoom

To develop a wise and balanced practice, we need to cultivate both emptiness and compassion. Tipping too far into emptiness, our hearts can close to the suffering of the world; tipping too far into compassion we may become overwhelmed by suffering because we can’t see emptiness at the core. When they are strong and balanced, emptiness and compassion generate the conditions that lead to liberation and wise action.
Coming together in community and supporting each other’s practice, we will have an opportunity to nurture and awaken this union of emptiness and compassion. Led by Lisa Ernst, this retreat will include periods of sitting and walking meditation, instructions, dharma talks and q&a. The retreat will follow a similar format as an in person retreat but will provide flexibility to accommodate the reality of home practice with others in the house. (Everyone is welcome to follow the full formal schedule, or participate in the Zoom sessions only).
This retreat is suitable for all levels of experience from beginner to long term practitioner. It is offered on a sliding scale of $100 – $150 for the three night option and $155 – $200 for the five night option. Please pay at the highest level you can afford so we can support others who need to pay less. There will be a separate opportunity at retreat’s end to make a dana offering (donation) to the teacher. Reduced fee scholarship spots are available if you need financial assistance. Please note that the two night extension (Sunday afternoon – Tuesday morning) will be peer led and is only suitable for those with an established practice and several prior residential retreats. Schedule: The retreat begins at 6:45 p.m. CST Thursday evening. Zoom will open at 6:30 p.m. for anyone who needs a technical check or would like to settle in. The evening session will end by 8:30 p.m.
